New Month, Purple is Coming out to Play

Purple and lavender are the colors for February.  With some careful digging, you can find enough variety to get contrast in your blocks between light and dark shades of purple.  I'm planning to go and dig through mine a bit to find some fabric to play with during the state of the uniom.  I can't sew for long though, Ryan is at robotics and I'll need to go and fetch him right in the middle of the speech.  There is an super blue blood moon tonight.  I might set an alarm to get up and look at it early in the morning.  It is really cold right now though, so maybe not.

  1. I will check my stash of blocks and see if I need to make purple or lavender ones. I can't bring myself to watch the State of the "Uniom."

  2. I'm with Tanya, I'm afraid I will go to my sewing room rather than watch the speech. Oh, and although I have committed to making slab blocks in the month's color..I am intrigued by your star blocks! "squirrel".........

  3. I'm excited about purple for February because I have a lot of purple scraps hanging around right now. I am going to watch college basketball instead of the State of the Union speech. Figure I'll have lots of opportunities to see the important parts of the speech over the next couple of days via the news - good or bad.

  4. Love the star blocks! I made one lavender block last night, and cut out 4 others, but I was too tired to sew any more. They'll be waiting when I get home from FLorida! I sure hope it warms up a bit!!

  5. I pulled my purples and am ready to sew - which I will be doing this evening. The last time I watched trump speak I ended up donating my entire checking account to various organizations in rebellion. I can catch up tomorrow on line and maybe it won’t cost me so much ;)

  6. Purple and lavender are perfect for February! Purple is a Mardi Gras color and Mardi Gras is February 13th this year. I've already started playing with the purple scraps!

  7. Very exciting moon conditions tonight! Alas I need more sleep than I am currently getting, so likely won't get up to see the eclipse. looking forward to purple!

  8. I’m excited about the purple and the moon. The speech, not at all. I’d rather have a root canal than listen to it. But I’ll read about it tomorrow or listen to NPR while I’m in my studio sewing...

  9. I never watch the State of the Union, regardless of what I think of the guy delivering it, because it drives me nuts that there's a standing ovation at the end of every sentence. I can read the speech in a few minutes, when it takes 2 hours to deliver. Meh. Who needs to waste time like that.

I just started quilting so I don't know if I even have any purple or lavender scraps. So this gives me an excuse to buy some purple fat quarters! Yeah!

  10. Yay... purple!!!

Thanks for the amusing comments.... as a non-American living far away (but married to one), and as an avid reader of quilters' blogs, I am interested to see your thoughts of your current president. I think quilters might have a different outlook on life!

  17. Ooh, purple. I have tons (and lavender too). You gave it away in a comment on someone's blog over the weekend, but I waited patiently for the official announcement. Purple was one of the months I actually got to either last year or 2016, so I have to see what I still need and I can always do more blocks leaning toward the lavender end.

  18. The speech was worth hearing. If you don't listen you will not hear. I will show respect to whom ever is in office. Not much purple in my stash, so red, white and blue. I love the USA.

  21. My purple "stash" is teeny tiny. That would be a fun block to make, though. Hmmm........
