Summer Days

Look at my new ironing board cover!  It was getting pretty ratty, so out came the staple gun.  Tada!  Good as new again.
With the ironing board fresh and clean, I put in a brand new rotary cutting blade and came up with enough squares for the back of snails trail.  I had about 75% of what was needed and tried unsuccessfully to get enough Kona cotton in ocean colors at Joann's.  Trying still to avoid crowds, I attempted the curbside pick-up.  That was a fail.  The online ordering mechanism doesn't filter by whether the fabric is available or not.  So it took almost an hour of thumbing through all the shades to find a hue available at my local store.  Then, after waiting 4 days for my order to be ready for pickup, everything was cancelled as being out of stock.  What a bummer!  I then actually went to the store to find something that might work.  A grocery store before a hurricane is better stocked than my local shop.  Post apocalyptic might be too strong a description, but not by much.  So after all that, I ordered from Connecting threads and waited patiently for my fabric to arrive.  Lizzie helped my layout the blocks this morning and I am ready to sew the back together.  Yay!  Small victories.

I went to Joanne's the other day & I couldn't believe my eyes!?? There was almost NO fabric inventory in the cottons. When I asked what the problem was, I was told "Most of the fabrics come from Indonesia, China & So Korea". So, until those countries begin to ship, if ever?? then, I guess we have to order elsewhere, if possible.

I ordered curbside from Joann's last Thursday. After still waiting to get past "Order Processing" I called the store today (Thursday, one week later). I was told they are so backed up with curbside that she didn't know when she'd get to my order. I'm heading out to the store to see if they have my basting pins and, if so, I'll cancel my "convenient" curbside order.

Interesting. I did an online order and also realized that the listing of fabrics did not indicate whether in stock or not but if I selected an item then I would find out if available at my local store and if not, then at a store farther away. As I wanted just a backing, I wasn't too particular about what was available. I also ordered batting which was also available. Once I had my order I was notified in a day or two that it was available for curb-side pickup. So not the experience the other posters had. I live in California if that makes a difference.

After hearing all the issues re: Joanns online ordering I had to go look for myself. What a hot mess!!!! It needs an overhaul! No wonder everyone is frustrated! Hobby Lobby carries a small range of Kona cottons if you have a store nearby. I order Kona solids from Hancocks of Paducah and recently, Fabric Shack. Hancocks is slower than usual (like everybody now) but their website/service is top notch. Fabric Shack has a great website as well. Whoever dreamed stores would run out of fabric in a pandemic???!!!!!

Your back for Snail's Trail looks amazing! Glad you were able to move that ahead in spite of the Joann's frustration.

Wow! I have not tried or gone to Joanns since before all this. Glad you were able to get what you needed. I love the feel of the connecting threads fabric.

Yea, Joann doesn't have anything. I don't think they stocked anything during the time everything was down.

Everything does seem to be harder these days for sure!

Isn't that why we have a stash, in case the stores run out of fabric? I have ordered for curbside twice from Joann Fabrics, and been disappointed both times. It seems the ordering info does not get to the store, and the computer will state they have something that they do not have! The first time i drove 80 miles one way to get it. The second time I called ahead!
