RSC15

Welcome to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for 2015.   After four years full of scraps in all the colors of the rainbow, we still haven't managed to use them all up!  The idea of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is simple.  Each month I will choose a new color.  You just need to dig out some scraps in that color and make something -- anything.  Definitions of scraps are as varied as the people who create them.  Some people have a system for cutting scraps into useable sizes after every project, some toss everything into  a bin and have to dig, some just sort them by color.  The choice is entirely yours.
Most people seem to choose a focus project (or two or three) to keep them busy throughout the year.  By completing one or more blocks in each color, they have a nice collection for a rainbow colored quilt at the end of the year.  Some people have even more scraps to use up and make entire quilts in the color of the month.  Again, the choice is up to you.  There is a board on Pinterest to help get you started.
Each Saturday a Scraphappy link up will be posted so that you can see what everyone else is up to and  collect some new scrap busting ideas. No need to sign up, no reason to feel bad if  life gets in the way and you miss a month along the way.  No quilt guilt allowed.  Just pop in on the weekend and check out everyone's progress, go visit and offer some encouragement.

This year , we are pleased to welcome back our sponsor!  Vicki Welsh blogs over at Field Trips in Fiber and she makes absoutely delicious hand dyed fabrics.    We have worked together to plan the colors for each month this year, and she has dyed a special collection for each of our chosen colors.  She has sent some to me, and I will offer package of the color of the month as a special giveaway to a randomly chosen reader.
The new color and giveaway will be announced just before the end of each month.  Just leave a comment to be entered to win.   If you aren't lucky enough to win, don't feel too bad, Vicki has lots of beautiful fabric for sale for the rest of us.  Check out her etsy shop to be inspired by all the colors of the rainbow.  Her buttons are posted in my sidebar and they will take you directly there.

I have also designed a new sampler quilt for this year based on the colors of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge Snack pack.  You don't have to use the snack pack to play along, feel free to use your own scraps to make 2-3 sampler star blocks each month.  By the end of the year we will have enough blocks for a beautiful sawtooth star sampler quilt.  The quilt has its own tab here, and as new patterns are posted, I will make a list of links to each tutorial.
I've got a new button posted in the sidebar, if you copy the html code below the photo and paste it into a gadget on your blog, the button should appear on your blog and will take you back to this post at my blog. That's how it is supposed to work anyway, I make exactly one button each year and always have to remember how it works each time.  Please let me know if you have any questions at all, and welcome to a brand new year of the rainbow scrap challenge!

  3. This really looks like fun :) I´ll try to follow. On my designwall right now I have a big rainbowquilt made of postage stamps squares. Working with one colour a month, sounds much easier!

  4. Hello and Happy New Year! Thanks for challenging us again this year! I love the rainbow scrap challenge. It makes me work a little harder and work with colors I don't normally choose. I started a few things last year with it and plan on finishing these this year as well as working on other new things. Woo hoo, I'm ready for the new year and some new Rainbow Scrap Saturdays!

  13. Last year I made the mistake of designating a 20" scrap block for the challenge so this year changing to smaller squares. Thinking of combining Judy over at Patchwork Times BOM scrap challenge with the rainbow color you pick - two for one!!

  14. Don't know how I did it but seems like I have deleted my comment! So here goes again - I have a heap of scraps so count me in.

  19. I watched all the beautiful projects last year from the participants of the RSC, so this year I am IN! Thanks for hosting this. I love scrap quilts and have plenty to play for a very long time before they are depleted.

  20. Hi, I recently found you through Kathy's Slow Stitching Sunday and will join in. I've been making crummy blocks in monochrome colours so look forward to adding more to my collection.

  21. I am not really a scrappy person but I have come to realise that so much can be done with them. This year is my scrap year. I have already done my challenge block, a wonky star 17.5" block, today and I have decided to make a double ended oven mitt as well. Getting ready for Xmas. I am very happy to take part.

  22. After what, 3 years of your rainbow scrap challenge this year I am in. I'm going to pick a block and each month make some blocks in the color you post. Hopefully I'll keep up and have that rainbow quilt you are talking about! Thanks for the inspiration.

  23. I'm game for this one too. I have been saving small scraps forever, and I can't figure out why! This will give me something to do with them. Thanks!

  24. Hi! I think I'll give this Challenge a try. I'm drowning in scraps! I hope I can make a dent in the pile. I love rainbow quilts and there's no time like the present to get started.

  25. I just found out about your blog and am going to try to use up my scraps. Does anybody else feel that no matter how many times you use your scraps, that they reproduce? I never seem to make my stash smaller, but grow! LOL

  26. HI thanks to Kevin the quilter I've just come up on this and this sounds fun. I'd like to join in!!!

    HUMmmmm my blues!!!

  27. Count me in! I've made 2 blue blocks to start a rainbow quilt and also made a blue mini for my fireplace hearth. Now I can't wait to see what color we are using in February.

  28. Oh I have so many fabric choices, but I tend to purchase colors that appeal, so having a "color of the month" might be a little extra challenge for me to think outside the color ditch I find myself in. Here goes!!!

  29. Angela, I know I am a tad late with this :-)... but I think I would like to give it a try! I have started following and hope to get caught up and stay with the project!

  32. I'm looking forward to participating again this year and busting out more colorful blocks. But I have to make some decisions about what blocks to make this time around. Decisions, decisions, . . .

  33. Glad to be here. Blame Alycia over in Colorado for another project on my plate. Her hearts were so pretty for 2014. I look forward to the stars for 2015.

  34. New comer here. I want to sew more this coming year and what better way to do it than to shop from my stash! Thanks for hosting, again.

  35. Another newcomer. So many bloggers and list members mention RSC I figure I need to jump on the wagon as long as there is still room.

  36. LOL - I have the same trouble with Buttons. I'll try to play once in a while in this challenge, but my plate can get so full.
    Thanks for the chance, Angela

  37. Lori in SD had so much fun with RSC14, I have to give it a try in 2015. Some blue scraps have been sewn into a donation quilt for January. Plan is to do that with each month's color.
    Love your concept!

  39. I love this quilt and am even keeping current with the blocks!! Looks to me like the alternate blocks use 2 1/2" color squares, so I'm going to cut squares from the 6 blues that I've used so far to make the two blocks. That way I can throw the blue scraps back into their bin and not worry about using them up on some other project before we get to the alternate squares. Are they 2 1/2" squares?

  40. What a nice-looking sampler you have planned!

  41. Is this where we leave a comment to be in on the monthly drawing courtesy of Vicki?

I realized I was still using the 2014 button last month.
I'm here now getting the new button code and seeing what the color is for February.

  43. I am late to the party but love this idea. If there is not one next year maybe I will just follow it from 2015.
