We are a week into the new year! I hope that you are finding time to sew and enjoying some new projects or making progress on your existing blocks. I have 78 out of the 180 blocks that I will need for Saltwater Taffy. I've been alternating between batches of churn dashes and chains. It looks like chain blocks are first up this morning. The four patches use 1.25 inch strips, but I made a big batch of strip sets, so I will just need to sub cut a few of those.
I was out of 2 inch dot blocks, so I switched to 2 inch bricks for leaders and enders. They make whirly blocks that I will set on point. I haven't done any math to figure out how many of each color to make, I just used up whatever 2 inch leftovers there where in the drawer.
It was a long week back to school, but everyone is back into the swing of things again. I think we have two full weeks before MLK. I've got some evening events and going into classrooms to look forward to in the next couple of weeks. After that, I am taking a bus tour of 12 private schools in Florida. That should be a lot of fun. Each school will wine and dine us and give us a tour before we move on to the next. It is a lot of school to miss, but it will be worth it to have so much insight to share with my student.
Use the linky below to share your progress so far in the new year. I always enjoy seeing which new projects you all pick out as well as the ones that get revived or rolled over. All of the above options are great choices. As long as it uses scraps, the it accomplishes the goal.

Wow, an impressive collection of blocks!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Being able to throw everything up on a design wall helps me to feel like I am accomplishing things!
DeleteYour Saltwater Taffy blocks are so fun to see! Looks you're making great progress with them. Lots of leader/enders are adding up, too. Enjoy your weekend before a busy week ahead, Angela!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Sometimes projects get stalled and then we can't remember why. It is fun to dust them off and remember why we started in the first place.
DeleteAhh! You made great progress with those blue scraps!
ReplyDeleteBlue is such a big color! It feels good to use these scraps.
DeleteYour churn dash quilt will be so awesome, Angela. I love anything that has a chain worked around the design.
ReplyDeleteA focus block with a chain around it is one of my favorite quilt layouts. So much better to give the other blocks some space to spread out.
DeleteEnjoy that tour of private schools. Sounds like fun!! Love both of the projects you have going on.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to it. I think I will be able to sew quite a few hexies with several hours on a bus each day.
DeleteI love the setting for Saltwater Taffy. Also, you have an amazing design wall. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI am so lucky to have so much space to spread out my blocks and enjoy them. It helps so much with motivation
DeleteSo glad you've had time to sew a bit. Sounds like you'll have to start off at a run for this school year.
ReplyDeleteWow, do I ever love your churn dash with X blocks. Looking so good. I love your blues, too, especially the pinwheel blocks.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I am loving this quilt again. Makes me sad that I put it away and neglected it for so long.
DeleteYou've been productive so far this year! All of the block collections look fantastic. Happy quilting!
ReplyDeleteYou won't have any blue scraps left at the rate you are going!
