One of the nice things about the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is that there is always next year. Unless you have run out of scraps, anything you don't finish this year can just get rolled over to the new year. I've been hosting the challenge for a while now, and I haven't run out of scraps yet. With my machine STILL in the shop since November 2nd, planning for a fresh start is what I do best. Along with each new start though, is the chance to add in new and exciting elements.
The most exciting plan in the works for a new year of the RSC is that there will be giveaways next year from our first ever sponsor, Vicki Welsh! There is a button on the right sidebar that takes you to her Etsy Shop where she sells so many beautiful hand dyed fabrics in all of the colors of the rainbow. She also blogs at Field Trips in Fiber where you can see some of the lovely creations she sews with her fabrics. Please go visit her and let her know how excited we are about her participation.
There will be a giveaway each month. To participate, just leave a comment about what you plan to do with the fabric if you win on the post announcing the giveaway. I'll check back next Saturday and announce the winner. As for me, I'm already a winner! In addition to the giveaway fabric Vicki was kind enough to send me some fabulous fabric for me to keep. It has been killing me not to have a machine with all that hand dyed loveliness waiting for me. As for what I plan to do with it though? Flying geese immediately came to mind. I found a free pattern here that might work, or I could even draw up my own design.
So, please feel free to link up if you have rainbow scrappiness to share, but also leave me a comment so that I can get ready for the first giveaway! Good luck.

I haven't worked on my RSC projects at all this week so sadly I have nothing to link up.
ReplyDeleteThe hand dyed fabrics are wonderful and would look great in many different projects.
Sadly no real sewing for me this week either. I got 4 peels done - does that count? Three rows of the snails are together too. Time to start finishing things next week I think.
ReplyDeleteHand dyed fabrics are wonderful. I have a bunch in the drawer left over from a graduation quilt... hey green and yellow - must pull some for the mystery!
Hope that machine makes it home this week.... or Santa leaves another one under the tree for you.
I have passed all my rainbow blocks on to Sarah's group - they can certainly use them for much needed love quilts. To make the most of these lovelies - maybe a cathedral window would highlight them.
ReplyDeleteI've been watching from the sidelines, accumulating scraps and playing with string quilts. I hope to try to keep up with next year's challenge...if I won fabric from Vicki, I might start to play with my dream quilt, Fire. I've been musing about how to make a quilt with realistic flames and I have ideas and techniques that I'd like to try next week. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Rainbow Scrap Challenge just keeps getting better! Vicki's hand-dyed fabrics are wonderful. We are so lucky to have her as a sponsor.
ReplyDeleteVicki's hand-dyed fabrics are really luscious - I had to wipe the drool off my computer screen! I'm going to have to contemplate an appropriate project, as I think her fabrics deserve the spotlight in their own quilt. Maybe something like the Lone Starburst block...

Not much sewing to report here, either. I'm going to try to post something later, but for now, DH wants to go Christmas shopping. Dreading the crowds, but hoping to make it fun!
I believe it is impossible to run out of scraps. The RSC13 is the first program I have remained committed to for the entire year. I tend to loose interest quickly. I look forward to RSC14 and have several ideas saved. Maybe I will pick more than one! Thank you for continuing this inspiration! It is my favorite program.
ReplyDeleteThe RSC has been fun. I used most of my crumbs this year and made several donation quilts. I do have a few projects that will carry over to next year and a couple of new ones to start. Will blog about them later and link up after I make Christmas cookies with the grandkids and help them paint their ornaments - both yearly traditions.
ReplyDeleteIf I won some of those delicious hand dyed fabrics I'd probably probably be too scared to cut into them and would horde them. Once I got by that I'd probably showcase them in something like a Dresden Plate or Fan quilt. I wouldn't want them to disappear into my usual scrappy quilts!
I've been following you for a while now, and finally jumped in and made 12 slab blocks that I turned into a wall hanging. I absolutely LOVE it. Thanks for the inspiration! I think it's time I joined in- I'll be doing the RSC14 along with you!!
ReplyDeleteI am sure any fabric I win will be in a quilt at some point, maybe even one of the Rainbow BOM. I need to get back to my projects but I think it may be after Christmas...then I too will be off to a great start! Hope your machine is home soon!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I haven't had time to work with my rainbow blocks as I'm finishing up pillowcases, dishcloths, etc for Christmas gifts. Hopefully this week I'll start piecing some of my RSC blocks together.
ReplyDeleteI will start using any beautifully dyed fabrics I might win to make a quilt for me! NOW!
I am working on a quilt design based on the Block Lotto patterns for next year ... I haven't decided yet on fabrics or colors for my quilt–if I won some of Vick's beautiful hand-dyed fabrics, they would likely become the color palette for that quilt.
ReplyDeleteI played with green scraps earlier this week. If I finish quilting and binding the holiday table quilt under the needle, I will pull out some mellow yellow scraps and continue working toward a finish on an old, old, RSC project.

no machine would be depressing! wish I lived close enough to loan you one of mine! My link is a finished quilt from last year's challenge. Yippee!!
ReplyDeleteI think the fixit shop should let you have a "loaner" machine. Some people cannot do without, or should not do without a sewing machine... I think you are one of those. Ask Santa for an inexpensive, second machine. Really all you kneed is a straight stitcher.
ReplyDeletePlease enter me in the contest for the Vicky Welch fabrics. I'm hoping to jump into the Rainbow Challenge next year. Probably make some monochromatic Rail Fence blocks. (They go together easily and are a great addition to other blocks. I've used them with orphan snowballs before, and made charity quilts that go together fast.)
Hugs
Glad to know that RSC will return in 2014. I haven't touched my sewing room until recently from way back in February. My RSC wall, only has pink and some purple on it. So I need to get back to that project of 8 projects. Been quilting a few tops for a dear friend recently, she passed earlier this year, and these are her tops that will be given back to her husband next week, two down, last one on the frame. THEN, I am going to get back to all my goodiness that awaits me. Those fabrics you are giving away look fabulous! Sorry about your machine, I think Santa needs to bring you a back up one for Christmas. :D
ReplyDeleteI plan on joining in next year, and am thinking of doing a pickle dish. Vicki's hand dyes sure would add a lot of sparkle, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Looking forward to another year of scrappy fun! Those fabrics could be very happy in my rainbow scrap blocks!
ReplyDeleteHi I am new here I got here via a link on another blog
ReplyDeleteI've only an idea of what you've got going
Please tell me more about it !!!
And correct me if I am off target each month use your stash fabrics of a certain color to make blocks
Not sure how the color is chosen ? You do that? And blocks ? Anything goes or only smaller squares to make larger squares?
Thank you

I am about to load one of the two tops finished from the Rainbow Challenge. I have not gone back and counted the number of projects I did using the challenge, but there was a few. Looking forward to 2014.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about Vicki being a sponsor! I started out on your challenge for 2013 and then I got an order for a rainbow quilt. I shopped and shopped and ended up with Vicki's lovely hand dyes. I can't say enough at how lovely they are. She has been a delight to work with as I've needed more fabrics as the king sized quilt progressed and I didn't have a king sized pattern, so my estimates were off a bit. Looking forward to 2014 and joining in for a new year!
ReplyDeleteI can think of all sorts of things to do with these beauties!
ReplyDeleteLovely fabrics. I am piecing a rainbow Dear Jane that could use these fabrics. Or I could start a new quilt pattern with them. Or both!
ReplyDeleteI want to do this challenge this year. I want to learn to make Cathedral Windows and would love to make a rainbow of them.
ReplyDeleteA free motion sampler quilt would look wonderful in her rainbow fabrics. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have nothing to link up... but I am really excited for 2014's challenge. And I look forward to getting my blocks from this year made into tops in January too.
ReplyDeleteI plan to do a better job keeping up with the challenge each month. I didn't do so well this year. I'd like to do a few log cabin blocks each month since that's my favorite block.
ReplyDeleteOk, bring on 2014!
I would add them to a new quilt called Summer at the Lake
ReplyDeleteI have been doing lots of secret Christmas sewing, so I haven't got anything to link up. If I won the giveaway, I would use the fabrics in one of the projects I have in mind to start next year - probably the one for my Dearly Beloved. I have been following your trials with your machine now for ages, and just so wish I lived close by so I could lend you one of mine!
ReplyDeleteI've been either sick or traveling since Thanksgiving, so no scrappy goodness to link up :( But excited to hear about your "linking up" with Vicki!!! I have one piece of her fabric with a kit I ordered last year - it's gorgeous!!! Of course, you know I'll be joining in next year - RSC is one of the things I do just for me because it's fun each year :*) What would I do with the hand-dyed fabric if I win? I honestly don't know right now, but I am certain it will tell me what it wants to become :*)
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. That gorgeous fabric would be perfect for my 'final quilt'; not of course my final quilt ever, but the last assessed piece for my City and Guilds course. It's designed and ready to start, all I need is the perfect fabric for it.
ReplyDeleteVicki's hand-dyed fabrics are really luscious and I would make a contemporary quilt design. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the rainbow scrap challenge and I've loved watching what everyone is making with their scraps. I'm only now getting to the point where I have enough scraps of different colors to join in.
ReplyDeleteI love the RSC and now it is even better. I have many rainbow blocks on the go. This new year, 2014, I think I will add some log cabin blocks, and some more flying geese blocks. I am sure there will be more to come. Thanks for the chance to win some fabric.
ReplyDeleteThese are so beautiful, I love Rainbow quilts (I have several on the go) and I love scraps. The first thing that comes to mind is my Rainbow hearts(http://inchbyinchquilting.blogspot.ca/2013/10/black-and-grey-hearts.html), these rainbow colours might just get that project finished.
