A new month brings a new color here at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. July will be all about using up your red scraps.
Just in case your red isn't quite as plentiful as your other colors, I have this beautiful bundle of hand dyed fabrics from Vicki Welsh to give away. Just leave a comment on this post with your favorite quilt block of all time and I will do a drawing on Wednesday to see who will win.
Why Wednesday you ask? In honor of the middle of the year, I will be having a special link up in the middle of this week. As we reach the mid point of 2015, it is time to take stock. By focusing on one color at a time, it is easy to loose perspective on the bigger picture. This is a chance to pull out your ongoing projects and get a photo of your blocks together as a group. For those of us working on several projects simultaneously, this is a great chance to do a quick inventory and make sure you haven't skipped anything important along the way. So come back on Wednesday for a chance to enjoy lots of projects in progress. Who knows, you might just find your inspiration for next year's Rainbow Scrap Project.

Happy Fourth of July, Angela. Enjoy the celebrations! One of the first blocks I made was the saw tooth star. I made a scrappy quilt of 6 inch stars for my sister's guest room. I get to sleep under it every time I visit. This particular star block is still my favourite.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite quilt block is the friendship star. It was the first block I ever made and I have a panel of them in bright colours hanging in front of the window in my front door. I see them scores of times everyday. Most visitors don't know the name of the block, but I think it's an appropriate block to welcome guests.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite blocks to make are improvised letters and words - I don't do enough of that lately. Hmmm. For a more traditional choice, I would pick the Oklahoma Boomer bloc because that little guy always makes me smile 😀
ReplyDeleteIf forced to choose, I would have to go with string blocks . . . so much variety and always so interesting to look at. Second place would be free pieced letters/words.

ReplyDeleteRight now, my favorite block of all time is the Dresden Plate, so much creativity can go into the centers, I love the visual flow of the blades and it entails several different skills, no chance to get bored. This will be my RSC16 project. How pretty will the blocks be in scrappy shades of one color, then something fancy in the center and a special setting for the finish. Lots of dreaming going on here.

That's an interesting question. I think I'd have to go with Log Cabin. I love the history of it, but also how much movement you can get with it depending on the width of the strips, the way you use the colour, placement etc. Definitely one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI love the 9patch block in all its variation, be it Shoofly, Friendship Star, Double 9patch, Spool, Maple, etc. I always have fun putting them together. It is simple but yet interesting.

ReplyDeleteIt's weird...just like colors, I don't have a favorite block. But the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge is definitely my favorite challenge/link-up!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would be the lowly 4 patch which can be combined with a lot of other blocks to make neat quilts.
ReplyDeleteI can't pick one - love the traditional heritage blocks - shoefly, churn dash, saw tooth and Ohio star, log cabin, bow tie and the 4 and 9 patch.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite block is the churn dash - my RSC for last year! Which means, since we're halfway through 2015, I should probably work on sashing them and finishing the top, huh?

ReplyDeleteHappy Fourth of July! I'd have to say my favorite block of all time is the Monkey Wrench (and variations thereof). I'm a little apprehensive to count up the blocks I've made so far in response to the RSC. I doubt I can even get all the blocks of one pattern on my design wall at once! Of course, I'm making bigger blocks than most everyone else. ;- )

I love to piece string blocks on a foundation. It is such a mindless way to play with fabrics be it scraps or planned. So fun. Aren't hand dyes awesome?

It is so hard to choose....I love so many of the traditional blocks. But pressed to choose, I am going to say churn dash.....for today anyway....LOL.

ReplyDeleteI think my favourite block of all time is the Heartstrings string block - over the years since Heartstrings started this block has been made into so many comforting quilts. I am making twinkler blocks as one of my blocks for RSC 15 and I love how they are turning out too.

ReplyDeleteMy favorited block has to be the sawtooth star block inside the larger sawtooth block. I am so behind on this. We are having a world conference at our church and work is taking up most of my time. I need to catch up quickly.
