We are safely tucked away in a hotel Orlando. It is looking like Dorian will leave Florida mostly unharmed, but I wasn't willing to risk it with the new house being on the ocean. I did bring some hand sewing along in case we get trappedS inside by squalls from the outer bands.
This morning we made it out between rain bands to take the dog on a nice long walk. I got a kick out of this nesting hawk sign along the way. Sydney wants to go to Shake Shack for lunch. We ended up on our third try at a very nice hotel in the heart of the tourist zone. We had reservations at a Quality Suites to start, but it was scary! We went to our room and turned right around and walked back out while I started calling for new reservations. That was after we evacuated earlier thinking that the storm would be here days ago. So many new adventures! I feel really lucky to be here. So far everyone is happy and willing to go along with the ever changing plans depending on what the weather decides to do.
Glad you were able to find the right place to stay at! We've all been thinking about you - hope you're able to go home soon.
ReplyDeleteDorian doesn't seem to know what she wants to do. She didn't move at all last night, but she is on the move again now.Slowly. I live in Georgia about 70 miles from the coastline. It isn't supposed to be really bad here, but they said that last year and we were out of power for almost a week. I am keeping a watch on her. Hopefully she will turn sooner and not do too much damage. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteSooooooooooooo glad to hear from you. Glad it is going better than expected. I will be glad to see how your house made it through. There is still high water expected.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are safe. Still praying for all you Floridians.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are safe and hopefully there will be no damage at your home.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're safe so far and have a comfortable place to wait it out!
ReplyDeleteHexies are the perfect way to wait out a storm. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteGlad you and your family are safe! Stitching is a great way to wait happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are safe and sound. Just the 3 of you or did you pick up one of the college ones as well? I'm thinking Anna is near Sarasota and fine at school.....
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone is going with the flow.... that makes life so much easier. For some reason... our schools are cancelled all week and we are no where near the storm..... but I believe our schools are some special needs shelters for those evacuating.
We have friends who are signing papers on a house they built in Hilton Head SC this week! Maybe! I wonder how FEMA would deal with that! Hope your house does well.
ReplyDeleteScary is the right word to describe some hotels, for sure. Glad you found a place and that you're safe.
ReplyDeleteI wondered how you guys were fairing. Thanks for the update!
ReplyDeleteStay safe! We’re thinking about you and sending good wishes your way. I hope you all can get back home and back to normal ASAP.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you are safe. Is it hard to get nice, good accomodation in this area
ReplyDeleteGlad you found a place to be for a few days. Hopefully the forecasts are right, you won't get a direct hit and don't have much damage from the glancing blow. When we lived along the Gulf Coast, I really hated hurricane season and all the dithering about leaving, staying, boarding up, etc.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering about you on the east coast but guess only the outer bands may have reached your new home and hopefully when you make the short trek in the next couple days back to your home you will have minimal debris to pick up ... windows to uncover and return to life as usual as coastal lovers in Florida :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you finding a comfy hotel... we once had to evacuate and didn't have other options that our pre reserved "microtel"... it is a micro sized room with a regular sized bathroom in it... sleep with your feet in your pocket my honey says... NEVER AGAIN for us! lol
Since we no longer live in Fla... we are a harbor for evacuees here in sw NC... if you and your fam ever need to leave the state keep us in mind if you want a nice safe and hurricane free destination :)
Enjoy your EPP and getting back soon! Kathi
So glad you are staying safe - and what an adventure! I am gald you are all very flexible!!
ReplyDeleteBe safe!
