This one is a nine patch. That means each subunit will measure 2.5 inches unfinished.
I chose two colors for my block, a dark and a light. You will need 2.5 inch strips of the dark and light that are at least 10.5 inches long. Using the Easy angle ruler, cut these into HST units using the same technique shown in Block 1. You will also need one 2.5 inch square of the light fabric and 1.5 inch strips of both dark and light fabrics that are both at least 10 inches long.
Sew the HST units together and press the seams toward the dark. Don't forget to remove the dog-ears.
Sew the 1.5 inch strips together and press toward the dark.
Sub-cut the strip set into 4 - 2.5 inch lengths.
Arrange the subunits as shown above.
Sew into rows, making sure to check the placement of the squares.
Sew the rows together so that seams fall toward the rectangles and away from the HST units. This will help the points lie better.
Here is the finished block. It is 6.5 inches and will finish at 6 inches in the final quilt. Happy little guy, isn't he?

Another fun block. I've got block 2 cut out and partially assembled. Guess I need to work a little faster.
ReplyDeleteI love that block!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite blocks! It was hard to stop at just one, but I have too many other projects shouting for attention today!
