It is a three day weekend and I think that I can finish all the blocks for Saltwater Taffy before it is time to go back to school on Tuesday. I decided that there should be 180 blocks, and it is getting close. One of the blocks had a corner rotated wrong, but thanks to a couple of observant commenters last week I was able to fix that. Design walls are such a good idea! I would have missed the mistake completely without the chance to put it up there and let it simmer. The aspect ratio isn't right, so I will still have to do a floor layout to get the block distribution laid out, but at least for now I know that I just need to fill in that last corner to get enough blocks.
My scraps have gone a long way, but if I use up any more, there will be way too much blue at the end of the year compared to the other colors. Some colors are just that way. Perhaps I will do a monochromatic quilt at some point? There is a baby shower at work next week, but it is going to be a baby girl. I could easily whip up a boy quilt today and make a dent. For now I sewed up crumb strips for the Cash Register Confetti quilt and string blocks for the New Moon blocks. I haven't made the actual blocks yet because I am still deciding on sizes. My trial blocks were pretty big and I usually enjoy small blocks. I might make a few more test blocks to settle on all the details. I won't start turning the made fabric into blocks until I am sure about that. For now though, they are fabric and not crumbs. That feels so much more accessible and organized to me.
The start of a new term for school is always busy, but thankfully the three day weekend will help me to find some balance. I am not super excited to have three classes at the same time, so it will take a bit of planning and a lot of diligence. But that is not a problem for today. How are your sewing plans looking for the weekend? I know that not everyone gets to enjoy a long weekend, but I hope that you will find some time to play with your scraps for a bit.

I am seeing a blue quilt in my future! Or maybe just some blue quilt backs? Blue placemats? So many scraps!

Awesome collection of blocks on your design wall. Good luck with the 3 classes this term. A long weekend always seemed like such a gift of time when I was teaching and also in grad school.

If I were more organized, I'd have a blue monochromatic quilt on hand for gifting; but, I'm not that organized! Enjoy your long weekend. I hope you make lots or progress on your projects!
I am so amazed that you can have a professional life and be a grad student plus have any time at all to sew! You maybe should rename yourself as Renaissance Woman! Few people can do as much as you can. When I was teaching, I never sewed during the school year. When I was teaching and doing grad school, there was no way I could think about quilting at all! In fact, I could rarely take two classes a semester! So, yes, I stand in awe of you. I still remember the morning I woke up to find my white sheets stained yellow--not with an incontinent issue, but from falling asleep while reading a text with my yellow highlighter open. And, yes, it washed out perfectly. Best wishes to all you do!

I have fewer than I did three weeks ago, and so progress is good. It would actually be quite sad to run out entirely.
I am feeling a bit buried right now, but it won't last forever. My sewing time has been more limited lately, which is why I am enjoying a bit of a surge before I get back to work again. As much as I would love to sew all day, I am happy to try to steal away a few minutes a day. Even that will surely fade, but that makes it all the more enjoyable while it lasts.
I have a plan... it could change. That is all part of the fun!
Long weekends are so lovely. It has given me one more day of procrastination.

It is a lovely gift. Especially so soon after winter break when the creative flow is still strong. The three classes are more than I would have chosen, but I am trusting the program.
Blue is a great color for a random gift. Who doesn't like blue?
I would have felt better without doing the math, but they are getting there! The problem with small blocks is that you need so many of them.
