Busy Weekend

 

It was so nice to be able to finally spend a day just sitting and sewing!   I did take a break for a beach walk in the afternoon, and did the normal weekend things like laundry and cleaning the bathroom.  Other than that though, I just played with fabric!  So good for the soul.   I made quite a dent in the green bin.  There were lots of little bits of crumbs hanging out with the strings.   I also generated so many waste triangles with the Sister's Choice blocks, and those are adorably tiny.   There is still one more green Saturday, so I should be able to polish off the rest before the month is done.   

Today it is back to school!   We have exams on Wednesday and Thursday, which is quite harsh right on the cusp of spring break.  This year evolved greatly due to COVID related changes in ways that nobody foresaw.   Next year will make more sense I am sure.   I am looking forward to doing normal things again.   Vaccines are proceeding quickly around here.  They have just opened it up to people 50 and above which has my husband off this morning to get his.  

ScrapHappy Yellow T Minus 2

 

Just two more week of yellow.  I hope that you have made a dent.  Sunshine isn't usually a huge color for quilters as it can quickly overwhelm a quilt.  It can also add a bit of happy and we all need more of that at the moment.  I got some of the Garden Lattice blocks done for this month along with just a few more of Shoostars and Sister's Choice.  Now it is mainly an issue of digging through the partially completed crumb blocks to find the rest of the pieces for this months blocks.  There were a surprising number of yellow crumb scraps this month.   

I also got just a few more of the itty bitty loggie blocks done.   It would be nice to round out the orange and yellow rounds.  Green is a bit of a missing link.  I will be sure to fix that when green gets its turn.  

How are your yellow scraps coming along?   I hope that you are able to stay warm wherever you are.   The news in Texas right now is just so disturbing.  One of our guidance counselors was visiting family there last weekend and has been unable to get back to work again.   She sent photos of the snow to us all.  Snow isn't something we really see here.   

ScrapHappy Sunshine Day

Some yellow blocks happened this week.  I don't have nearly as much yellow as pink, so there won't be quite the same level of variety going on.   I had to buy some fabric for backings and picked yellows and oranges hoping to fill out the scrap stash with the extras.  

The farmers wife blocks were a failed quilt along from long ago.   If I just make three more I could have a small 4 by 5 quilt.  OR I could throw out one block and make it a 4 by 4.   I've been on a quest lately to finish things off. This has led to digging deep through bags and boxes of this and that seeing what I could take care of.   Honestly, the limiting factor right now is quilting.  The longarm does not stay set up in the new house at the moment, so finished quilts happen in spurts.   All good though, all of those lovely flimsies will get a turn at some point.  Until then, there still seem to be plenty of hidden surprises to find.  

ScrapHappy Saturday - Pink Progress

I hope that your pink scraps are seeing some action so far.   I am enjoying a fresh start despite the news and everything that is happening in real life right now.  Sydney spent the week with strep throat.  It is a sad day when you are thankful for a bacterial infection because the alternatives are all scary.  Ryan is headed back to the University of Florida today.  All of his classes are online, but he still wanted to go and be there in person.  He had to plan his move in time so that he could get his scheduled Covid-19 test which is required for everyone.  Anna is a complicated story, I'm not sure if she will be allowed to return because she has been having some more serious issues that I haven't really discussed online.  She is stable now, but being away and unmonitored is a scary thought for her right now.  So I guess you can see why fabric is such a joy right now.  Sewing is uncomplicated, brings immediate satisfaction and doesn't require any scary decisions.   I am loving my pink scraps right now and very much looking forward to making more shoofly and silly star blocks today.   Uncomplicated, easy, and pretty.  Yes, that is a great plan.  Please share your pink progress so far.  It is fun to see other people creating and to hear about their own ups and downs.  

Crumb Plans

 

I am determined to take care of all the little odds and ends this year. I don't want to use up all my scraps by any means, but I do want to be left with useable bits that can fuel future projects.   

 It was extremely satisfying to sew tiny leftovers all together and square them up into these 4 inch blocks of random happy scraps.   I don't have a plan yet, but at some point I will collect enough in all the colors and turn them into something lovely. 

I was surprised as  I searched through unfinished projects and block collections at how much I have hanging out in limbo.  I tried to update the "My Quilts" tab of my blog with links to help me remember which projects are waiting for attention.   I think that I will rotate some of them into project bins.  With my sewing space in constant flux right now, being able to pull out an individual bin to work on might make productivity a little easier.  I know someday I will have a dedicated sewing space again.  I never would have guessed when we downsized houses that everyone would rush home again to shelter in place during an ongoing pandemic.   I guess life is full of surprises.  

We had a family Minecraft session last night and fun was had by all.  My son Ryan got us all accounts as a Christmas present and we have spent many hours all gathered around the kitchen table since then collaborating in our little digital homestead.   I was keeping one earbud in and monitoring the events in DC while we played, but that is a story for a different blog.
