Happy Easter

I hope everyone is having a relaxing and rejuvenating Easter Sunday.  I tried sneaking into the sewing room first thing after the egg hunt this morning but was pulled back into a round on house cleaning that lasted until lunch.  Hopefully that silliness is over and I can get back to my little hideaway soon.  I put yellow sashing strips on two sides of my green crumb blocks to give them a less formal feel than a lattice and cornerstone treatment.  I think I still need to randomize the rotations a bit more.  After that I pulled all the cheddar bowties out to see how close I am to getting that one done. It has been ages since I finished anything and I am starting to feel that there are too many irons in the fire.
Yesterday we went to a HUGE Easter party that a good friend hosts every year.  The kids have all been looking forward to it for ages and were so excited to get all dressed up and smash confetti eggs on all their friends.  I've been sweeping up leftover confetti all day but the kids are already looking forward to next year.

Hoppy Easter!

Sorry for the bad pun, they are very popular around our house right now. We all had a great time at the Easter party last night; chatting, and playing games and finding confetti filled eggs to smash on the heads of unsuspecting observers.
Our family won the big prize for the games, which were these matching bunny ears. We also took home a family pack of chocolate bunnies which the kids all ate for breakfast this morning. I have been picking bits of confetti and Easter grass up all day, but it was all well worth it. The kids look forward to it every year.
I didn't accomplish any major projects over spring break. Unlike last year when I made the Welcome quilt from start to finish.

I did take care of a lot of loose ends though. I spent an entire day washing, ironing and folding fabric to put away, and another cutting strips and squares from the leftover basket. I also got the rest of the blocks done for the main part of Spinning Stars, as well as planning out the setting and borders. There are going to be four quadrants with 25 blocks each, separated and surrounded by a stripe of dark green. That should cover the top of our bed exactly. The part hanging over the side of the bed will be made up of two rows of four patches, or maybe three depending on how the size works out. Kurt has requested a thicker batting to keep us toasty during those harsh Florida winters. We have a couple of quilts that fit our bed, but they all fairly light weight.

I don't feel ready to go back to school tomorrow, but it is getting very close to the end now. Summer is an even more exciting concept now that my HQ 16 is on the way. I'm already lining up the projects. I hope everyone else had a great holiday.

Easter Party

We headed off to an Easter party this afternoon, so it is obligatory to torture everyone with pictures of my kids in their new spring ensembles (mostly for my mom who loves the kids in fancy clothes). The older they get the harder it is to get them to all stand still for a group picture.
We took the no-bake strawberry pie that Judy L. had a recipe for recently. It had a little mishap during the no-baking process, but my dear husband stepped in to rescue it before I completely lost my mind. I guess these things happen when you are cooking with children, I just wish they didn't happen quite so often when I am trying to make dishes to take to someone elses house. I didn't take a picture, which is probably for the best considering what it had been through. I never got to taste it, but I heard it was pretty tasty.
My good friend Meisje has hosted this party every year since before I knew her. She makes hundreds of cascorones. Those are confetti filled eggs that you break over the heads of nearby friends or strangers.
Here she was explaining the rules of the game to the children when Kurt snuck up behind her and broke one on her head.
There are regular plastic eggs as well, and the kids were all pretty anxious to find them. Look at the intensity on those little faces! The littlest kids got a head start before these maniacs were released for the hunt. After that it was a mass of flying confetti and shells until the last egg was found.

The kids were exhausted from all the fun and collapsed into bed as soon as we got home. We've got our own eggs ready for morning as well as Easter baskets that Kurt has hidden somewhere. His family always hid the basket with gifts rather than finding eggs. It seems odd to me, but we've hidden the baskets, and the eggs are ready to be hidden first thing in the morning. I hope he didn't hide the baskets too well or they won't have anything to put the eggs into. It's always interesting to meld together the traditions from different families and turn them into our own little script. I'm continually surprised at how many different variation exist on the same basic celebrations.

I hope everyone else is having a happy Easter weekend.
