2024 Wrap Up

It didn't feel like I had much time to sew in 2024. Starting graduate school has been a lot, and work has been busy. The usual things seem to take up a lot of time. There were hurricanes and trips to the mountains. If you had asked, I would have said I finished a couple of quilts. That is why it is good to take a look back and get an overview of the year. I did more than I thought! I did more finishing of what I started last year, but if that means that this year I will finish off what I started last year again, then that isn't a bad cycle to follow. When I retire then I will be able to have more quality sewing time, but I am still managing to squeeze in enough for now. I used Canva to make a photo collage for this year. So much cuter than what I could have come up with on my own.

ScrapHappy Saturday

 

Most of my quilting time last weekend was spent on this scrappy postage stamp quilt.  I loaded and quilted on Saturday and then did the binding on Sunday.   There is truly no rhyme or reason, just all the leftover 1.5 inch squares from lots of other projects.  

A few more purple blocks got added to the wall.  Tutorials for the Hens and Chicks will be finished up shortly.   We had another one of those weeks at school with things going on in the evenings.  Then yesterday was a field trip to Kennedy Space Center.   The students seemed to get a lot out of it and the weather was just glorious.  Spring has definitely started here along with the spring break travelers from everywhere.  

ScrapHappy Saturday Number 4 - First Red Week

It is so much fun to start a new color. Clearing off the design wall and digging into a brand new scrap bin is a fresh start each month.  I am happy with the amount of green that got put to use last month.  I am not sure that I will continue with the crumb blocks each month, but I had a bunch of green crumbs and it is good to get the squared up into blocks that can be used for whatever.   

I have been working ahead on the Hen and Chick blocks, but I don't have all the tutorials ready quite yet.  It looks like I still owe a Chubby plus block pattern for this month.   I love the way that one turned out and am so tempted to start a new block collection of just crosses.  It doesn't look like there are quite as many red scraps waiting to be used, but I am always amazed at how far my scraps can spread.   I hope that you are ready for some red as well.  

 

ScrapHappy Saturday #3 2024

 Sadly, this is not a three day weekend, and so I will have to take advantage of both days fully.  It is going to be cold, but it looks like it isn't raining for the first time this year.  I hope that means I can get out for a walk.   

I have been working ahead on the sampler blocks, though of course I can't show any of those ahead of time.   That helped me get lots of green plus blocks done as leaders and enders.  The star blocks are from last year, and I am not super crazy about them, but I have SO many crumb blocks that this seemed like a good way to put them to use.

ScrapHappy Saturday 2024 Number 2

 We have only been back at school a week, but it is already a three day weekend.   We have quite a bit of painting and organization to do around the house now that the kids are all gone again.   It looks like another rainy day, so inside jobs will be just right.

I've been working on green plus blocks as leaders and enders in between lots and lots of sampler blocks.  I am working ahead and so can't share any of those yet, but I am having so much fun crossing blocks off my list of even nine path blocks.   I do want to make a dark green scrap bin this month.  I have one for light green, but green is a big color for me, along with blue.  Having some extra space will helpful.
