ScrapHappy Saturday - Now in Shades of Spring

I hope everyone is ready to pull out some purple.  I know I am!  As much as I enjoy brown, it just isn't quite so cheerful as purple.  Especially with bits of yellow added in.
First up on my agenda for today is to make some butterfly blocks for the column-along sampler.  I will have a new tutorial featuring purple posted soon.  If you are ready though, there is an earlier tutorial available from the RSC14 ScrapHappy Sampler.  You could even mix in some small butterflies if you are feeling creative.  Because both blocks finish at 6 inches, you will need to make 12 blocks for the large sampler or 9 for the small.

Because it is the first week of a new month.  I am also happy to announce the fabric giveaway from our generous sponsor Vicki Welsh.  She was kind enough to send this hand dyed gradient of pastel sunset fabric for one of the scraphappy quilters.  Just leave a comment on this post with the one sign you are looking forward to which will let you know that spring has arrived.  For me it was a baby sandhill crane walking down the street with its parents.
For now, misterlinky is available so that we may all start to enjoy you purple progress.

Well there is snow on the ground so there's no visual signs of spring but the birds have changed their songs...they sound like spring :)

I saw the first sign of spring yesterday. The crocus are up!

Instead of the first sign of Spring I will tell you my very favourite colour of Spring. It is the green just as the weeping willows are starting to get their leaves....very fresh and pretty. When I see this green it makes me full of the happiness of Spring!

I'm longing for the snow to disappear, though it will take some time. Thanks for the giveaway.

Yay-I have a sewing day today so I can start in on these blocks!
(I should have keep reading before I asked for the tutorial earlier!)

I look forward to the hummingbirds coming back to prove Spring is really here!

Around here even though the calendar says Spring, we could very well still have snow on the ground. So, my favorite and most accurate sign of Spring is the Canadian Geese coming back home. When I hear them sing, I know Spring is finally at my door. ;^)

The sign that I look for: dandelions. We already have many of the spring bulbs starting to bloom (way too early) and I see Robins all winter long at the base of the feeders. So it is the dandelion that starts to bloom as the grass begins to green up that is the sign of spring for me.

The sign I'm looking for is the sprouting of the mini daffodils I planted in our garden in memory of my son Chris, who gave me spot of them every year. I planted those same bulbs last fall and marked the spot with a strip of red calico.

I saw a robin yesterday. That is a sure sign of an early spring. My tulips are also poking out of the ground.

The first snowdrops blooming is my favorite early sign of spring. The robins have already arrived and are singing away which means spring is really here. Spring has started weeks early this year here. We completely missed a real winter here on the west coast.

I know that spring is here because .... I saw goldfinches at the feeder, I heard the mating song of the cardinals, I heard water running in the little creek behind my house and I felt warm breezes on my face. Yes there is still some snow on the ground and a few flurries in the air but by Monday the temperature will be above zero Celsius and will remain there, according to the forecast, for the entire week. Within a day or two all the snow will be gone. I just love the give away this month. Hope my number is the lucky one.

Hearing the spring birds singing, and later the frogs. Ice is still on the pond in the next door woods.

I have two favorites the first buttercup and listening to the frogs croak, both of which we have!

Although a new storm is headed my way on Monday, because my yard is filled with birds, it does seem like Spring is here–my cats think so, too, and keep insisting that it's time to open the windows and doors so they can enjoy some fresh air ... and better keep track of all those birds.

I always look for the crocus and daffodil shoots that come up and then bloom a day or two later as my sign spring is coming/here. The give-away bundle colors look like spring to me and I'd love to make some Easter baskets and fabric eggs or maybe a wall hanging or table topper welcoming spring (oh so many beautiful projects come to mind using that bundle!) Thanks. ktsquiltdreams (at)gmail (dot)com

My test for spring is when my winter jacket is just too warm. Hopefully that will be soon, although the 25cm of snow we got today isn't a good sign!!

Yes, the purple and yellow combo is so much more cheery! This week, the little lizards are back on my porch in the evenings, a sure sign of spring!

I look forward to all the daffodils in our yard. The previous owners must have planted thousands, so the first spring was a glorious surprise of color! Every year, I look forward to seeing the variations, since I can never remember which were planted where.

Like so many others, where I live now - in central Kentucky - for me the sign of spring is when I see the daffodils. And, I'm so ready for it.

I haven't done any pruple YET but have my GO dies out and the basket of purples, so this week I should get going on those!

CUTE butterfly! A perfect block for a rainbow scrap challenge column quilt!
Daffodils! For me, lots of sunny yellow daffodils means spring is around the corner.

I love seeing the daffodils blooming every spring. The way they come back every year is such a joy.

Springs means bright flowers (so welcome) and new green leaves. Thanks for the opportunity. Looking forward to butterfly blocks.

Crocuses! My purple ones started showing up today, which is perfect timing with our purple inspiration for the month. Though this year, I actually had daffodils before crocuses.

I am CRAZY about spring here in Texas. I LOVE the Redbud trees blooming with all flowers and no leaves. And I love the dogwoods that come a few weeks later. All the birds are singing and building their nests. PLUS there is no humidity here so it is the BEST TIME OF YEAR!!

Forks and Forest said...

Many things sprouting as if Spring is starting to arrive - but my favorite sign is the arrival of a flock of robins that come every year, and haven't shown up yet. It is a flock of a 100 or more - they fill the trees.

I watch for the first robin returning from warmer climates.
It could be any day now :)
