ScrapHappy Saturday - Ready for Red

My sewing room is moving at the pace of cold maple syrup. I have a stack of red squares prepped and sitting next to the machine in case I should get done with my school work early and find some time to sew. This too shall pass. Yesterday was originally planned as a holiday for good Friday, but we had to give it back as a hurricane makeup day. Attendance was not good. We also got an email from someone in human resources at the district office threatening to fire us all if we didn't show up to work. Honestly, it just made me want to call in sick. I did not though, and so it is a normal two day weekend. We spent Thursday contacting our recent grads who are at FSU to make sure that they were all OK. Some of them were still locked into classrooms waiting to be cleared, but thankfully they were all safe. Our school district has been in the news a lot this week. First we refused to renew the contract one teacher for using a students preferred name, then we sent another back into the classroom after a drunken kegger with students, then we put the drunken teacher back on leave and then another was arrested again for domestic battery. Then the state passed a bill drastically cutting funding for advanced programs. Not a good week to be a teacher locally. For now I am just glad to be away from it all for a couple of days. I will try to power through a couple of assignments and then find a bit of time to put some red squares together. How are your reds coming along?

I'm sorry to hear all of the school "newsworthy" events. How sad to be fired for using a student's preferred name. I just don't understand why it's anyone else's business. Sigh!!! I hope your shortened weekend is relaxing and stress free.

Oh my! That's really a sh*t of a week. I feel for you, sewing sister. I'm sending you peaceful vibes for this weekend and wrapping you up in a rainbow of courage, strength, and calmness for the coming week. May things return to normal soon. ;^)

This state has gone mad! I can't believe they passed that bill. I guess they want people uneducated? Geez, hope they don't defund the Bright Futures.... kinda counting on that for my kiddo's college. Hope next week is a better one for you.

This is a really tough time to be a teacher. I've taken a break and currently work as a pastry chef in the bakery of a local coffee shop - way less stressful! Best wishes as you persevere, and hopefully one day it will be better.

Glad the FSU kids from your school are okay. I'm so sorry for all the stress teachers are under. I hope you find a little time to decompress with sewing.

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that your former students are all safe. It makes me sad and angry every time there's another school shooting. I wish that we could find a way to prevent it from happening.

My reds are moving at a snail's pace, Angela. So sorry to hear that your week was not good. Here's hoping you finish your assignments and find some time to sew. Your RED scrap bits are waiting for you!

So glad all your alumni were physically OK. Not sure how you cope with something like that mentally. Hope you did get a chance to sew for a bit and take a sanity break from all the school stuff.

Oh my. It must be challenging to be in the middle of all the drama when you really want to just help your students learn and grow. Bless you for checking in with all your grads. It has been a challenging week. It warms my heart to hear about your compassion. ❤️
