Quilting Again

Hawaii Sunset was done, leaving the frame open and ready.  It didn't take too long to load the Rainbow Scrap Challenge Sampler of 2014 onto the frame.  The grey stripes are going to have horizontal quilting lines and the white stripes will have vertical.  Then each of the block will get some little bit of individual attention.
Once it was loaded, I had to quilt a few lines, just to make sure that everything was working as it should.  There was a work social after school today or I would have gotten further, but tomorrow is the last day of exams, so finishing this one up shouldn't take too long once the working thing isn't taking up most of my days.  I actually abandoned my AP class today to go to the dentist before our insurance ends tomorrow.  The new coverage won't start until February which would have totally messed up my winter and summer rotation.  The kids weren't due until January, so I pushed them off to the other end, the orthodontist says we will just redo all the math once the new policy is in place.  So many funny things you never think about when planning a job change.

Little Bits of Fabric Joy

I was home sick today and didn't have a lot of energy, but I did work on a few midget blocks.  Here is a sneak peak, but the full posts will wait for Tiny Tuesdays.  I have another applique block prepped to work on during the presidential debate tonight.  I might have to watch it in a different room from my husband who gets very emotional about these things.
The exciting news for today is that I go brand new and fabulous fabric in the mail.  I am planning to start a Rainbow Dear Jane as soon as the Midgets are all done.  (Don't know when that will be -- but maybe by the end of this year?)  When I saw these beautiful bundles at the Twiddletails store, I knew they would be just right.  The only one I didn't put in my cart was a yellow set that seemed to have a lot of white background going on.   Aren't they purdy?  Of course now I have the urge to go and make a few blocks just to try out all this new fabric, but I will resist.

ScrapHappy Saturday -- Wrapping up in Brown

We've just gotten back from vacation and after unloading the car and settling in the kids it suddenly occurred to me that it is Saturday!  Days of the week are something it shouldn't be so hard to figure out.  It is the last Saturday in November, and your last chance to post your brown projects for the month.

I pulled out some "brownish" fabric to border the alternate blocks for my latest "Four Square" quilt. I've made this pattern at least twice in the past and I just never get tired of it for leaders and enders. This is a blue one that I made for a friend who was sick. Then there is this one that was one of the first quilts I finished when I got my new HQ16.  I have plenty of 16 patches in my 2.5 inch LnE tub, but I think I'll dig through to find the ones that are more autumn hued to go with the darker alternate squares.

ScrapHappy Saturday Now in Brown

Anyone feeling inspired by brown today?  Somewhere I have the pieces for a scraphappy brown square, right next to the orange one still missing from company cleaning last month.  Hopefully I'll unearth those today and start thinking about the finished scraphappy quilt.  How about you?  Feeling brown?

ScrapHappy Saturday -- Finish up the Orange

I am going to be happy to finish up the orange today!  Somewhere I have another ScrapHappy block all cut out and ready to go.  I even bought some potential sashing fabric.  White is usually my favorite choice, but it won't work in this case, so I got some black with rainbow dots and stars last week.  I've also seen lots of pretty modern quilts with a steel gray background, maybe that would work here as well?  What are you working on during the last weekend before Halloween?

ScrapHappy Saturday - 4 of 5 in Orange

Just two more orange Saturdays left.  I'm about out of orange scraps, how about you?

ScrapHappy Saturday - 3 of 5 in Orange

There are 5 Saturdays in October leaving plenty of time to work on orange scraps.  I didn't have much time to sew this week, but plan to try to find some time today so that I can devote tomorrow to school work.  What are you up today?

Scraphappy Saturday - Orange you Glad its a Weekend?

It is a wet and rainy weekend, the kind that would be perfect for holing up in the sewing room and whiling away the day.  I'm not sure what we'll do with our company, but I'm guessing that we won't be out and about too much today.  I saw the cutest pattern for a paper pieced candy corn block at Stash Manicure a few days ago.that I think I would play with if I were sewing.  It would make a nice little mug run.  I'm not sure paper piecing is really necessary, I think free form and wonky would be really cute as well.  Instead I've pulled out some hand quilting so that I can be sociable.   Use the linky box below to share your Scraphappy progress.

ScrapHappy Saturday - Feeling Orange?

Today is the first ScrapHappy Saturday in orange!  I have a few black blocks to finish up and I want to do some more crumby sewing for the crumb along, but I will definitely delve into the orange jar (though is is shared with yellow)  to see what I can find.  Feeling inspired by orange yet?  Post your ponderings below.

I pulled out an old project last night hoping to finish it off, but I couldn't find the right ruler to make the little star points. Maybe it will turn up today so I can finish off this little quilt for the entryway. I think I started making the big blocks (9.5 inches) and then decided smaller blocks would be cuter (6.5 inches).

Check This Out

I was ready Patchwork Times, one of my daily reads, because Judy just makes me laugh.  She had a linky box for the monochromatic challenge, and one of the quilts pictured just blew me away!  Check out the new flimsy by Amy at Flimsy Excuses.  I absolutely have to make this quilt.

ScrapHappy Saturday - Last one in Black

It is the last Saturday in September and I am liking the black background for crumb blocks.  I whipped these little geese blocks up last weekend.  Today I am going to try out some stars and hearts from the Crumb along tutorial on Tuesday.  What scraphappiness are you up to today?  Use the linky below to share your progress.

ScrapHappy Saturday Still in the Black

Happy Saturday.  I am in the mood to make some flying geese crumb blocks with black backgrounds today, how about you?

ScrapHappy Looking Black

I think today will be and odds and ends day. There is a Girl Scout 5K, but neither of the girls wanted to go. Next weekend there is a quilt group thing, but for today, not much is going on.

I think I'll take the ScrapHappy blocks down and start putting up the blocks for RRCB.  They are getting close to done, I just need to find all the HST units that have gotten scattered and lost along the way.  There is a nice stack of fabric from the Goodwill shirts, that would be fun to play with.  I guess I'll start by catching up on ironing and sorting and see what bubbles to the top of the priority list.

ScrapHappy Saturday Once More in White

I hope everyone is looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend at home.  I know I am.  This was our first full five day week at school.  Everything is going fabulous so far, but it is still nice to have a respite from all the activity.  I added a white Happy Scrappy Block to my collection in honor of August being the white month.  My main goal today it to get the Lonely Log blocks together.  I am also just INCHES from finishing up the hand quilting on The Elm Creek Sampler, so that will definitely be high on the list.  Use the Mister Linky below to share your own progress on this ScrapHappy Day.

ScrapHappy Day

I noticed that I hadn't posted a thing since the night before the first day of school. I guess that says something about how my year is going. Everything is great, but it is SO busy right now. I've got 6 classes instead of 5 which leaves me feeling a little busy most of the time. It's the weekend though, and I'm ready to rest and recuperate. Somewhere I have some white blocks that just might fit together by the end of the day. What are your plans for scraphappy Saturday? Use the linky to share your progress.

ScrapHappy OOPS!

I guess I knew it was Saturday in theory.  Somehow while traveling, the days of the week seem a little jumbled. It occurred to me about the time I was boarding my flight that I hadn't posted any linkies yet.  Sorry about that.  So it may be a bit more of Scraphappy Sunday than Saturday this week, but I am hopeful that things will settle down very soon.  The good news is that I am FINALLY home again!!

More ScrapHappiness

I've been sorting through the scrap jars cutting strips and squares. Most of what is left is strips less than 1.5 inches and triangles from joining binding. I'm thinking that another pineapple quilt may be in order. During the process I found enough purple squares to finish off a purple scrap block to go with the rest. I've got some little stacks started with other colors, but none has gotten 20 squares tall quite yet.

Scraphappy in YELLOW

I've been struggling to find a nice shade of yellow for my blog this month.  I guess that says a lot about how I feel about yellow.  I've got some squares and strips pulled to start a few blocks that will go in with other monochromatic blocks.  I'm having a hard time visualizing an entire yellow quilt.  Maybe a place mat?  We will have to see what the month will bring.  I'm just back from a morning run and as soon as I have had a chance to shower, it will be off to the sewing room for me!
I hope everyone else is finding something yellow in their scraps stash or stack of UFOs.

In the Pink

I used some nine patches left over from the Bonnie Hunter mystery Double Delight quilt.  I've been a little bit carried away with nine patches lately and have a big stack waiting to turn into something fabulous.  These little guys are just alternated with some plain background squares. I am so happy to FINALLY get a jump on Scraphappy Saturday!
Things at school are on a definite downward slope.  The AP Biology exam is on Monday and at that point it will be about wrapping things up.  I'll be moving rooms again, so I've been busy getting things packed up and organized again. Fortunately I didn't exactly settle in to my new room when I changed schools so it shouldn't be too difficult to move everything.  I'd like to do a little decorating in the new room though, it isn't quite as nice and new as the room I'm in now.
Today was Sydney's class field trip to the zoo. Kurt volunteered to chaperone. Yesterday was Anna's 5th grade trip to Sea World and he was a chaperone for that as well. I guess he is all volunteered out for a while. Ryan's 4th grade trip is Monday, but he didn't really want any of us to come along.
This weekend is the Mother's day recital for Anna's theater on ice.  She is also trying out for a play.  That may be all for the weekend.  Football is over, OM has ended, Girl Scouts are wrapping up.... wow, thing might settle down into a peaceful pattern for a while.  I wouldn't mind spending a little time at home for a change.
