ScrapHappy Saturday - June

 Some colors need more than one month. I will admit to getting a bit tired of working through the blues, but the bin never seems to get any smaller!  Just in case you made a nice dent in the blues when we did dark and bright earlier this year, feel free to add some light greens to the light blues to try to tidy up two bins in June.  

ScrapHappy Saturday - Schools Out

Graduation was Tuesday, it was a beautiful ceremony.  Then, we went to trivia again on Thursday and won!  We can keep eating for free as long as we keep wining.  

Finally, it was  the last day of school!   Just two weeks of camps and a week of work at the district, but there is a light and a tunnel in there somewhere.   Having a summer is one of the best things about teaching.   

For now though, it is a long weekend.  We are headed off for a weekend of camping and hiking.  I hope you have lots of sewing to look forward to.   I plan to spend a little time in the sewing room before we head out.  It is almost useable again.  

If you have a long weekend to look forward to, I hope that there is some sewing time to enjoy.  We are almost done with the orange month.  Light blues and greens will be the order of business for next month, so you might be able to spend some catch up time if your blues aren't too out of control.  All of my scraps are out of control right now, but there are worse problems to have. 

ScrapHappy Saturday - Orange Crush

Days are rushing by! I did dig out my orange scraps. They are sharing space in my sewing room with shelves under construction, dorm room returned excess and lots of kids clothes in transit. I hope to clear out some space today and be able to sew. 

 Having two kids back home again is a big adjustment. Sydney turned 20 this week.  She got a job at a restaurant within walking distance of our house and then went back to visit Gainesville with her friends.   She has two summer classes as well, I hope she doesn't forget about them!  Just one week of school left for me. Graduation on Tuesday and then final exams for all the rest. 

The days are long now and there is always a chance to see the sunrise, even on mornings of early testing.   How are your oranges coming along? Please share.

ScrapHappy Saturday - Orange you Glad?

 Looking forward to seeing lots of happy oranges.  Everything in my sewing room is a disaster right now.  Kurt is putting built in shelves into the wall under the stairs and two children are home form college, dropping off all of the detritus from dorms and apartments into my sewing space and the spot where I usually put my car in the garage.  So my car is outside getting salty and getting to my sewing machine is a dusty obstacle course.   Still, somewhere in there are my orange scraps!  I am looking forward to finding them and reclaiming at least some of my new sewing space.

ScapHappy Saturday - Ready for a Change

Looking forward to starting a new color today! I love orange, though I must admit that it was much neglected in my stash before the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Now I try to work bits into bindings or backings to make sure that some ends up in the scrap bin. I should have at least enough to get my basic blocks out this month. I enjoy the little bit of happy that orange and yellow bring to quilts and working on those months each year have helped me broaden my color preferences. Ironically, I am trying to find orange felt to make homeroom flags and it is out of stock everywhere.  Too many Florida Gators I guess.   

 It was another busy week at school! Monday started standardized testing season, and so I rushed from morning AP testing to our lunchtime college signing day celebration. Such fun for the kids! They all posed for photos with college banners while wearing their college shirts. I had a selection of stickers for anyone that didn't have the right shirt quite yet. 

Sydney came home on Wednesday for the summer.  She is taking online summer classes which seems to be the norm for all of her UF friends. We have been going to trivia on Thursdays recently and won second place again this week!  It was May 4th and so there were lots of Star Wars themed questions. 

   

I skipped right past the rocket launch last Sunday.  It was a Falcon heavy and it was beautiful!

Then yesterday was Cinco di Mayo, we were a bit worried that our usual Mexican restaurant would be too busy.  It was packed, but we managed to get a table and met up with my old running partner and her husband.   I think the drinks were stronger than usual because I am really feeling it this morning.  That could also be old age.  

There are still two more solid weeks of standardized testing.  I'm not supposed to do anything while the kids are taking tests, so I usually try to get my steps in each day as I walk around the room to monitor progress.  I am easily getting 15,000 steps in during each test.   I try to stay caught up on regular work when I am not in tests, kids still need help with dual enrollment classes or documentation needed for colleges or scholarships or just random questions that they need answered.  We are double checking all the graduation requirements of course and getting everything prepped for commencement.  All such good stuff this time of the year!   I thought that the summer would be a break, but it is starting to fill up with college boot camps and workshops.  Again, all so exciting and beneficial!  But for now, there are orange scraps to find and we need to get the extra room prepped for Ryan to come home tomorrow.  It is going to be strange having kids back in the house again.  We had kind of gotten into the empty nest routine.   

   

ScrapHappy Saturday - Last of Purple?

Orange you glad that we are almost done with purple? I'm not so much done as I would like, but I am still looking forward to digging into orange on Monday. So I wasn't an academic team coach this year, but somehow they needed a female chaperone at the last minute and I got pulled in.  The team ended up finishing second in the state for division 1 with one of the members being named to Team Florida.   The competitions have always been at Disney in the past with the kids spending time between matches at the parks.  Florida has a thing about Disney now so we had to switch the dates and venue. Just when you think it can't get stranger.  The kids had fun at the resort though, they played mini golf and splashed in the pools.  The end of the school year is coming on fast!  Senior breakfast was yesterday, AP testing starts on Monday and graduation will be here before we can imagine.  

I hope to dig a bit deeper into the purple today.  It has been strangely stormy all week so I think I will get out for a walk early today.   Kurt is working on some built in shelves in my sewing space and some of the kids will be home for the summer in the next couple of weeks.

 So sorry for the delay today.  I am in Orlando without a computer this weekend and DH is trying to post for me 

ScrapHappy Saturday - Purple Pride

Thanks to the long Easter Weekend, I finally got some purple blocks up on the wall. It felt so good to just dig in and start putting scraps together.

Time will tell as to whether I have a bit more mental bandwidth today to put together some more detailed blocks.   There may just be a lot of simple blocks this month!  Sydney has come home for the weekend!  The end of the semester is near and we will have her and Ryan back for a bit.   They grow up so fast!

Still lacking in purple on the design wall.  I am getting caught up bit by bit though.   

There is purple in the pipeline though, so it will be on the wall soon enough.   

There is an extra day this weekend to sew with the Easter holiday.  Looking forward to a nice walk on the beach and some time with the machine.

ScrapHappy Saturday - Purple

A new month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge means a new color and we are ready to do a deep dive into purple!

I wish I could claim to have made great progress on green.  These three tiny green blocks tell a different story.  I do have plenty of pieces cut for plus blocks and sawtooth stars, so they will continue as leaders and enders while I sort through purple.   

I think that April will still be busy at work with dual enrollment things, but May will have to slow down as most of my time will be devoted to monitoring standardized tests.  Our school district has had quite a week with two principals and a guidance counselor all arrested for driving drunk last weekend and then the interim superintendent being put on leave on Tuesday.  It is all quite a mess, but it isn't my mess and I will keep doing what I do.  Prom was last night, we still have senior projects and grad bash to get through, and of course, graduation.   Seniors are making their college choices now and it is always exciting for them to plan the next steps.
