August Color Annoucement

The color for August is indigo.  Vicki Welsh and I worked on colors earlier this year, and I usually do a black month, but she didn't think that she could get enough variation in shades of black, and suggested indigo as an alternative.  Indigo lives between blue and violet on the rainbow, though its position on the electromagnetic spectrum is controversial.  My sampler blocks this month will be made with fabrics from this hand dyed bundle that Vicki Welsh made for the RSC15.  You can enter in a drawing to win this bundle by leaving a comment on this post with the one color you still want to see this year.  I will also be tackling the black and grey scraps in my stash this month.  I think that the very dark blues will work nicely with the blacks, as none of these represents a large volume of scraps for me.  So, start clearing out the reds and see if you have any dark purply blues, blacks, or grays to play with this month.

I would like to see orange. Indigo, dark blue/purple, black, gray sounds good to me for August. I can have a lot of fun with those scraps.

I'd like to see orange. As indigo is a no-go for me (it's not going to show on a navy background!)I shall probably be making aqua blocks this month unless you are planning aqua for later.

I may have to be inventive to find indigo in my stash. The color I would like to see this year is browns.

I wasn't surprised to see INDIGO as August's Color of the Month. However, I am looking forward to ORANGE month!!

Although I don't have a lot of orange, I'm with the group - was hoping. Indigo is a tough color - I have a few treasured Civil War prints, but that's it. I may have to sub a different color.

Gorgeous color! I have not been diligently keeping up so I have a lot of work to do but when I organized my stash the other day there was a lot of green and brown. Going to have to make a quilt or two with just those colors I think.

I love this color! Orange is nice but I would love to see a month of neutrals.

I love the brights especially so orange will be fun. Indigo may be a little challenge for me to find. But the dark colors do make these rainbow quilts have more depth.

We definitely need an orange month!!! And we are still planning for light/bright greens, right? I didn't do a good job of sorting blue values in January, so will take this month to rework those blocks, separating them into medium blues and dark, ugly, indigos. blues are hard for me...

Ooh...I hadn't thought of a month of neutrals! I would love to see a month of multicolor prints. I have a hard time using them, so that might give me the needed incentive.

Nice color choice! I think I go with the majority here: orange!

Yes...orange for sure :)
Will enjoy indigo this month... I think I have a lot of that!

I was afraid I'd be the only one hoping for orange, but I see lots of happy orange faces!
Indigo will be hard, but not any harder than black or gray. I think I've found another gap in my rainbow...

I'm waiting for orange too!

Orange for me too.

Yes, orange seems a must.

Another vote for orange. I don't think I have anything in Indigo, so I'll play around with black and grey. Also hoping for a brown month.

OH, I love Indigos. This will give me a chance to use some of my lovely shibori fabrics...itching to get started. But first, I must clear the decks of reds! And then after that Orange will suit me just fine. I have been accumulating those in a bag in anticipation. Thanks again for your leadership in all things rainbow and scrappy♥

I never run out of blue! I am looking forward to brown. I like how they add a nice dark to the bright rainbow colors in the scrappy quilts.

I'd like to see brown.

I probably used any scraps considered indigo in a blue month so for August I will probably use black and gray instead if that's not going to be used in any other month.

This is going to be a struggle for me - like others I have used dark blues earlier in the year, certainly blue leaning towards indigo went into a teapot but I'll have a look see what I've got.

Yes I agree we will need an orange month, brown month, maybe a grey month. I am going to be doing some indigo dying in mid August so will wait to see if I produce anything good.

Oh yeah for Indigo as I have a lot of that!!
I too pray for an orange month, please. If you go Lilac I'm in big trouble as I have none. \8^{
lol ;^)

Black and gray for me! Very exciting colors for the busy colors so far!

I'm not sure that I have much indigo, but I will do some digging. Black and grey won't really work with my circle blocks, but I can make bowties. I am thinking we will still get orange, light green, and brown, maybe light neutrals.

I remember Indigo from my days of being a Rainbow Girl. Have always loved this ""different"" and ""unique"" color.

My crumb boxes are overflowing in the neutrals group . . . maybe I'll do a scrap vortex with those. Need to see what I have that works with the "indigo" theme for August!

Any color you pick will be fine with me. I love the blues for this month.

I would also like an orange month since I happen to have lots of great orange strips. I found some handmade indigo fabrics which I will use this month, although I hate to cut into them

I'm looking forward to orange. Guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer!

Orange or violet would be my top two choices as colors I'd like to see come up in the next couple of months. Indigo is not a color I have much of, so I think it will be black and gray Twinkle Stars for August.

Gorgeous, love those deep blues!

I forgot! Would love to see Orange!!
