Time Marches on

We had our first positive Covid case at school this week.  It was only a matter of time, but it was still shocking how much it disrupted everything.  There were kids streaming down to the office and getting sent home for the next two weeks.  Then the second parade started of kids with possible contact who don't have to quarantine.  It didn't take long for them to start doing the math to figure out who the positive case was based on seating charts comparing to physical location of kids who got each type of letter in each class.  I've got several kids in my afternoon class who are now online learners.  At least for now.

Another teacher went on leave for the rest of the semester, so we are down three so far.  I think that will be the thing that closes us down.  Subs are hard to find right now.  On a brighter note though, the teaching part is getting easier.  The kids are adjusting to the new routine and we are all starting to bond.  Times of crisis do bring people together.  The staff has never been so helpful and supportive of one another before.

I spent most of last weekend ironing and cutting scraps.  It was restful and meditative.  I didn't get to the the sewing part yet, but I have plenty of the right sizes ready for all my blocks this month and to make up for last.

Glad you are able to find the positive. Being virtual learners.... we are not hearing anything about the kids school really... well other than all the calls for the parents to let the teachers teach during school time and not interrupt. Every week....
Can you imagine.... we are now in Phase 3? Guess we never did follow any of the guidelines for doing any of the opening phases! Why start now. Life certainly is strange.

Taming scraps IS restful and satisfying - your colorful buckets look great on your shelves! Take care and kudos for trying to stay positive.

hope you and your family stay healthy - it must be very hard to find subs right now - I would think they would need to know both how to teach in the classroom and how to do the online as well - and some must be thinking it would be the worst possible job right now as far as safety goes for them and their family

So sorry about the double linky post, I was having trouble navigating "Mr. LInky".

Must be so difficult to be a teacher in these troubling times. I hope you are able to continue your in person teaching.

I think of teachers so often and just like the hospital workers, it's a very stressful front line job to have during covid. We have had covid cases in most of our local schools this month but they aren't closing them. It will be interesting to see what happens next!

Thinking of you (and all my Florida friends and family), especially now that the governor has dropped all Covid restrictions for businesses. I know you will "follow the science" and continue to stay as safe as possible!

Stay safe! My grandson is doing in-person half-days a couple times a week for school and I worry about him. And he's not even in a high-risk state like you are!

I am a high school SPED teacher and I get it. My quilting is my refuge right now. Not many cases in my area of the world but creeping closer district by district. Stay safe!
