Spring Break Update

 It is Wednesday of our spring break week, meaning the fun is almost half over.  Here is Sydney at Lacrosse.  I'm sure she's in  there somewhere.

 Here is Anna at Lacrosse.  Kurt had to take her while I was with Ryan at Mathcounts.

 Here is Ryan at Mathcounts.  It was at the Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort this year.  Probably nicer than the Doubletree of last year.

 Ryan had to miss the daytime performance of the school play, but we got back just in time for the evening show of Mulan Jr.  He had a super time and was all excited about going to Steak and Shake after.

 Then bright and early the next day, I was up to take Anna to the Orlando Science Center.  I forgot to take any pictures during, but we had ice cream and bowling afterwards.  River wasn't in the competition, but he came to be supportive.

 Then, finally, we were able to start the actual spring break activity --  camping!  Day one started with hiking.  Here we are on balanced rock, which isn't quite so balanced as it used to be.

 Each day ended with 'smores of course.  So many 'smores!  Every meal was cooked over the fire.  We all smell like smoke now, but in a good way.

We took a break from the camping to take a boat out on the gulf, no fish were caught, but it was lots of fun.  And so now we are home again to rest up from our vacation.  While the laundry works its way through the cycle and the kids settle back into home again, I think I'll go remember how my sewing machine works.  

Omnipresent

My principal was the administrator on duty for the lacrosse game tonight and delivered ice to the concession stand where I was working.  He joked that I seem to be everywhere.  Between the job and the kids it isn't far from the truth.  Sydney and I manned the snack stand while Anna was on the field.  She got some playing time tonight and was SO happy.  The coach of the other team was one of her coaches last year on the rec. league team.  We live in such a small town sometimes, I love it.   Ryan is in Orlando at the Mathcounts state competition though he will be back for the final dress rehearsal for the junior high musical tomorrow.  So no sewing tonight, though I did go for a run after school and before the game.  Shocking right?  Two whole miles.  I read that Amy had started running again and felt inspired.  So thanks Amy!  It felt great:)

Slowdown Sunday - Green Edition

I was on such a roll with green blocks today that I couldn't help finishing off the last one.  There are still triangles of course, but the green center blocks are done!  I've just got a bit of handwork saved up for the end.  Two applique blocks and one which will be an attempt at hand piecing curves -- wish me luck on that one, curves are not my strong suit.

So here is the wall again -- isn't it getting full?  The closer it gets to being filled in the more I really want to just finish it all off.  I'm not really thrilled with the distribution of green shades, there are two olives right next two each other offset by two limes on the other side.  Maybe I'll fix it later but it might not look the same in the actual blocks.

Anna went to a fair last night and won some stuffed animals.  I'm not sure why, but she wanted to decorate dad this morning.  We are just back from Ryan's football game, it is the start of a new season already and he is on a different team.  Dad was lucky enough to get volunteered to be the coach this time.  The good thing about being the coach is that he can coordinate the practice times so that they are at the same time as Anna's lacrosse.  Maybe there will be less driving that way.  Hopefully.  

Lacrosse Away Game

There are only three lacrosse leagues in our county which has meant that most of our games this year have been away. Today we are in Orlando for a double header before driving to our campsite for spring break. We have a cabin which is a first for us. It looks like a rainy weekend so a bit of shelter will be nice to have.
I got the hand work done on two orange triangles on the way here and finished another on the machine before we left. I will be happy to move on to the next rainbow color for Jane.

Sunday Slowdown

I've been stitching away steadily on the small blue Dear Jane.  Each block gets its own little treatment as the mood strikes me.  I'm well over halfway now, and starting to think that finishing might be a real possibility.

My hand quilting still isn't perfect, but it is a nice relaxing way to spend an evening while the family is watching a movie together in the evening.  Kathy is hosting a link up for slow stitching Sunday, head over to her blog to see what others are up to.

The girls both got up this morning and decided to start sewing.  We got a new sewing machine for Anna a couple of weeks ago.  There was an add in the paper that was advertising a clearance sale on school overstock machines still new in the box.  Kurt was able to drive down on his lunch break and get her all set up.  Now Sydney has taken over Anna's old machine which used to be mine, and they are both happy as clams.

Yesterday was crazy busy.  Ryan had his first football of the new season and Anna wanted to go to a Lacrosse clinic.

Not wanting to go alone, she recruited her friend Allie.  They were definitely the youngest girls there, but they stuck together and had a good time.  She seems to have talked Allie into signing up with her for the recreational lacrosse league that starts next month.   Somehow poor Sydney's Girl Scout meeting got lost in the shuffle of all that.  

By the end of the day, Anna was done though and snoozed right through the second movie in our Lord of the Rings marathon.  

I'm hoping Sunday will be a little more relaxing.  The boys are going to play Dungeons and Dragons and the girls want me to take them shopping for new outfits to wear for science fair.
