Bricks

I keep seeing this quilt on Pinterest and Etsy, but I can't figure out how to make it other than in long rows.  I hate sewing long rows.  There must be a way to make it, but with blocks.

So I grabbed some graph paper during my lunch today and started figuring out how to make it in blocks.  It isn't exactly the same, and the diamonds will be in two sizes, but it would be much easier to put together.   I was thinking of trying it out with some two inch bricks and squares this weekend.
One more lacrosse game this week to get through.   We lost on Monday and won on Wednesday, tonight is another likely loss, and then it is on the district matches next week.  What a strange season it has been!  We have three injured girls and two out on quarantine, so there aren't many subs, but everyone is hanging in there with a good attitude so far.

What a clever layout you came up with! I love "mapping" out a quilt or even just a block to see if I can figure out how to make it work even if I don't have the pattern. This will make a great scrappy quilt.

I saw a tutorial on Sunday's Hands2Help post about this quilt. The long rows didn't really bother me. I like the block version you've drawn up, too.

I am with you on the row thing, I would much rather sew blocks.
How different high school sports are depending on where you live. In Minnesota the Lacrosse season started this week with our first game next Friday. Love that my son chose to play a new sport over football 5 years ago, don't love so much he chose to be goalie! Praying he gets a senior season in as his junior season was cancelled.

Rachel who blogs at Quilted Twins has this Free Pattern under the name "Mosaic Variation". They have a lot of great free patterns: https://www.quiltedtwins.com/free-patterns.htm

I have that scrappy quilt as the free pattern on my bucket list. Someday... I'll have to admire yours from afar for now.

You should be able to keep all the diamonds the same size if you keep a constant three white bricks between the bottom tip of a diamond and the top tip of the diamond right underneath it. I hope this makes sense to you as it does in my head. Looking forward to your version. ;^)

Quilted twins has 2 patterns for the Mosaic quilt on her website. One is done in rows and the other is blocks. I did it with rows- wish I had known about the blocks then!

Without a pattern it was a good idea to map it out. But looking at the comments you have a couple more options now!
