ScrapHappy Saturday - Blue Suede Shoes

Welcome to the last BLUE ScrapHappy Saturday.  It has been exciting to see so many new people joining in to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year.  I have truly enjoyed visiting new blogs and seeing all the great ideas.  It makes me wish I could quit my day job and stay home to sew forever.
I hope you have made a dent in your blue scraps this month.  I know I have.  Last Sunday I spent quite a bit of time turning 1.5 inch strips into this pile of postage stamp blocks.  Each one is a 36 patch.  Some will go together to make giant framed blocks and some I will save to use "as is".
Because the month is winding down, it is also time for the Vicki Welsh Hand Dyed fabric giveaway.  You can see some of her work here.   The best thing about using up so many of your blue scraps is that you have made room for some new and colorful additions to your stash.  One lucky reader will win this color wheel assortment.
Carla was the winner last time and she has already had the courage to start using hers in some great looking pickle dish blocks.  If you don't win this time, please be sure to try again next month.  To enter the drawing, just leave a comment on this post telling me where you are from.  I will choose the winner next Friday and announce it when I post the new color for February.
Until then, don't forget to use the linky tool below to share your final thoughts on blue.  The links will be up all week, so feel free to continue tying up your loose ends while the month finishes off.

It is so great to have the push to use my scraps. I have nearly finished a bag of BLUE's... Not all of them. I have got to finish some more pot holders & oven mitts. They are nearly up to the binding stage. Other colours got in the way. My mums green bag was one of them. What could I do... It is her birthday.
Thanks for the inspiration

I do admire your patience using up your 1.5 inch scraps. And they do look great. Have a good scrappy day. Sarah (UK)

Oh no - I forgot this is the last Saturday in blue! I'll be plugging away trimming up and making more churn dashes and hexie flowers this week. Florida (transplant from chilly Vermont)

I have enjoyed January's blue clearance, although I think as much has come in as has gone out! (Last Saturday was the clearance sale at my local quilt shop.)
I'm writing this from my home in Rijswijk in the Netherlands, having moved to Holland from the UK more than 30 years ago.

I think the giant framed blocks will make a great rainbow quilt.

I live in a town just north of Toronto, Canada and it has been dang cold and wintry. I could use some of your Florida warmth and sunshine!

My piles of odd shaped blue scraps has dwindled and my bags of strips have all gotten a bit fatter. I was wondering last night what to do with all the strips, your postage stamp blocks have inspired a use for my bag of 1.5" strips.

I'm originally from the "Show Me" state.

I see that you are attacking those great 1 1/2" squares... love it! I really enjoyed the month of January, although I don't see a dent in my ever growing stash. Admittedly, I hope I never run out. (Cold in South Louisiana)

I love your blue blocks. This year will be iffy for me as to how much I can participate, but it's for sure that I'll be checking out everyone's projects and enjoying vicariously. The RSC is such a good idea. I'm here in Florida with you, and I'm enjoying the cooler weather.

Dasha said...

Its the dead of the night, so I'll take some photos of my "blue makes" in the morning to link in. Your blue blocks are great - so industrious doing them in 1.5" strips. That's too small for me! I am in the NSW Central Coast, Australia.

Amy said...

Absolutely Angela! It's been super amazing to see how RSC is growing, and reading up on some new blogs! And it's WAY WAY super cool that it has grown to earn its own sponsor! Whoo-whoo!

The last Saturday already?!? Holy moly. It's no joke how busy busy life becomes as the kiddos get older! Enjoy your day girl! I'll catch up with some sewing tomorrow....I hope.

Of course, you know I'm in Wisconsin. I suppose I could cross all my fingers and toes for a late start or day off for Monday; predicted to be <-35 windchills....again.

Happy Saturday.

Rainbow Scrappy is one of the best challenges I've come across! And possibly the only one I join in with.
Great going with your little 1.5inch square postage stamp blocks!
Looking forward to February's colour :) Elly in Scotland

I am so glad I jumped in and joined the RSC2014. I went from starting one quilt to two. I don't have anything to share this Saturday but I am looking forward to what February will bring. So excited to see what the next winner will do with her Vicki color wheel hand dyes, they are so gorgeous!

Your postage stamp blocks are fabulous! So many beautiful blues.

Great postage stamp blocks Angela!! I'm in Iowa and we are freezing at the moment!! Thanks for another great year of rainbow challenges!

Melinda said...

Oh my, that's a huge pile of postage stamp blocks. They look so pretty all piled there. You have really accomplished a tremendous amount this month.

Good Morning. The last saturday for blues. The only other color that can keep up with my blue volume is greens, but we'll manage somehow. LOL

It is great how RSC has grown. It takes almost a whole day to blog hop through the links of inspiration.

Wonderful that Vicki is sponsoring. How generous of her.

I always like a postage stamp block of any kind. I'm liking small pieces in quilts more and more.

Iowa is my home.

Your blocks are lovely, I don't know how you had the patience to do so many! I'm still deciding on a pattern for 2014. I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

I'm having a blast playing with blue scraps this month. I'm one of the new ones playing along, and am now wondering why I didn't do this sooner. I'm in London Ontario, a city about 2 hours south of Ellen's little town. And it's just as cold and wintery here, too. I was supposed to be going out this afternoon to a quilt show planning meeting, but it was cancelled. Means more time for sewing blue scraps.

I am enjoying this challenge and I am very excited about finding out what color is next.

Wow. So many links each Saturday morning. So much scrappy, fun inspiration. I'm from North Carolina and I hope I win some of Vickie's beautiful fabric!

Thanks Angela for the alert regarding the no-reply status. It's a problem with Google+ (that I didn't want to use in the first place). I've fixed it and put an update on my blog with a link to the post that helped me.

Love seeing everybody's January blues. Those hand-dyed fabrics are a wonderful prize. I'm originally from Orlando, then West Virginia (home), Indiana, Ohio. Happily settled in Kentucky only one hour from my parent's house.

Thanks for this wonderful challenge to get rid of scraps. I think the blues will be around my house for a while more.

I live just outside of Great Falls, Montana. We've had some beautiful weather lately but every once in awhile it lets us know it's still winter.

Wow, love those postage stamp blocks!

I haven't made much of a dent in my humongous pile of blue scraps. That could take years! But thanks for getting me started on it. I'll be sewing more blue things for the next week, hopefully.

I'm currently living in Washington in the Pacific Northwest, but originally from Michigan. We've actually got some (cold) sunshine today - yay!

What a fun challenge. I currently live in Virginia but I grew up, or failed to grow up, in California.

I'm so glad I have come back to the Rainbow Scraps Challenge. While I did take one planned project off the wall, I managed to finish my blue goals for three others. Yay!

My name is Jannette, and I live in s.w. Ontario - where it's VERY cold and blustery today.
This is my first time participating in your scrap challenge, and have posted a pic of the blocks I made on Tues. - hope that's okay! I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing where you're going to take us every month!

I am Karen and I live in Ohio. It has been cold and snowy since December and I am tired of it. I have really enjoyed the rainbow challenge. Thanks for the extra push to take my scraps and make beautiful quilts.

I'm in New Zealand and I'm having so much fun making the sampler blocks. Yesterday I sorted piles of pinks and greens from my big scrap bag so if February's colour is either of those I'll be set.

I am back to the Rainbow scrap challenge. It feels so good to be back. I am from Leduc Alberta not far from Edmonton Alberta. We are very wintery here but I think Friday we were warmer than Huston TX. We have had melting temperatures this past week.

I know I'm late to the party but I thought I'd try to link up anyway. I don't have the square done for the month but I have the scraps cut and ready to sew up tomorrow. This is my first time joining you and I'm so excited to use up some of my scraps! This is a great idea!

Rita@PinPrickedFingers.com said...

Oops, I'm from Ontario, Canada! Forgot to say that in the last comment.

I do have some more blue blocks to share, but haven't taken a photograph yet. I'll get them done before next month though. It's wonderful reading all the comments and seeing where everybody comes from; I'm jealous of all the Australians enjoying their summer. I'm in wet and windy Somerset, in the UK.

I guess the advantage to posting "late" is that I get to read everyone's comments - love hearing where all the Rainbow Scrappers hail from! I live in New Orleans, but grew up in Florida. I just call myself a Gu'f Coast gal. Thanks for this week's sampler blocks, I enjoyed them a great deal!
