I'll be making sampler blocks in all the colors of the rainbow this year. Feel free to play along with me if you like.
I hope to post 1 - 3 new blocks each week. Each block will be 6.5 inches unfinished. I'll keep a running list here for easy access. If you keep up with the blocks you will have enough for a nice rainbow sampler by the end of the year. Feel free to add in your own blocks to make this quilt truly your own. Skip anything you don't like for whatever reason, no quilt guilt allowed!
There are so many wonderful 6 inch sampler quilts out there for inspiration. I know the Farmer's Wife Quilt has been popular lately. I am also a fan of the Elm Creek Quilter's books and once worked on Sylvia's Bridal Sampler. For those with a modern flair, I am enjoying Tula Pinks City Sampler Quilt as well. The Block Lotto is a great source of quilt block ideas and patterns. There is an index of all of the years here. They seemed to have focused on 6 inch blocks during 2008 and 2009, though many blocks can easily be adapted to a 6 inch size by looking for the grid pattern.
With so many great block ideas don't feel that you need to make all of the blocks in a specific quilt or be limited to one style or source for block inspirations. Like the colors of the Rainbow, all your blocks will work together in the end.

I've got some catching up to do
It's nearly February and I'm getting excited about what colour will be next - don't get me wrong I love the blues and think I could probably stay in this palate all year. This is my first rainbow quilt and I'm wondering if you can give some tips for working in colours you don't like and/or don't have a lot of fabrics in. For me I'm particularly thinking about pinks which is a colour I seem to struggle with.
Oh my. I thought I had caught up but on the last day of March you snuck in some more and haven't stopped in April.
I'd better get sewing instead of reading blogs....

Oh my, what a lovely NEW addiction you have created for me. I just discovered your blog---someone posted the link on FB. NOW I have printed all of your RSC patterns(to date), and I am on my way to the store to buy a BIG binder to hold them all. There were three patterns that I could not access--Fiesta Pinwheel, Big Dipper, and Contrary Wife. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong? Thank you so much for all the work you put into this project.

October blocks when I try to see Kentucky Crossroads it keeps bringing up Road to Tennessee. Can you tell me how to gwt thw Kentucky Crossroads block. I just found your site yesterday and I'm already a big fan. I will surely be telling my sewing group about you at our meeting next week.
